Fact? Or fiction?

In 1998, I discovered that Rev. John DuBois had published a series of newspaper articles appearing first in the Alabama Christian Advocate in the mid-1880s, a publication run by members of the Methodist Church but read by many more. Though his articles gave details of early Alabama Methodism, it also contained many details that were autobiographical.

I reprinted and sold these articles at cost in a spiral-bound "book" for many in the genealogical community. The title was Necessary Fried Chicken, derived from a remark Rev. DuBois made about chickens being necessary to feed the ministers at camp meetings. The book also contained some personal information on the DuBois family.

After I finish the Louisa Saga, I will be republishing Necessary Fried Chicken, additionally explaining which details from the series are fact and which are fiction.

In response to requests for my research ahead of republishing the book, I will trot out some of the facts, hopefully without spoiling any plots.

Upcoming blog entries will explain some of these.
